Nathaniel Jeffrey Pepper passed away on April 9, 2019 at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, IN. He was one day shy of 8 months old.
Nathaniel (a.k.a. Nater Tater) was born on August 10, 2018 in Cincinnati, OH to his loving parents, Mitchell and Amanda Pepper. He loved storytime (especially books such as You’re Here for a Reason and If You Were My Bunny), sweet songs, snuggles with all his people, applesauce, and a cool breeze.
Nathaniel is survived by his parents; his loving big sisters, Callie and Josie; and his big brother, Jacob. He is also survived by grandparents: Greg and Colleen Pepper, Ron and Jan Monteith, and Kim and Rob Cook; his Uncle Mark Pepper (Hannah), and Aunt Jessica Monteith; his cousins, Kit and John Douglas Pepper; his great-grandparents, Bud and Carol Monteith, Pat Clapp, Shelah Clapp, and Erv Spreckelson. Nathaniel is preceded in death by great-grandparents: Dick and Jean Pepper (Spreckelson), Ervin and Ona Schutt, and David Clapp.
Nathaniel’s entire family would like to extend their thanks to the doctors and staff at Cincinnati Fetal Center, UC Health, Riley Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for their incredible care of Nathaniel throughout his life. The family appreciates not only the medical care he received, but the genuine love, prayers, and support from these hospitals.
A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Monday, April 15th in the chapel at College Park Church (2606 W. 96th St. Indianapolis, In 46268) with a celebration of life service immediately following. A private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Down Syndrome Indiana, 708 E Michigan St. Indianapolis, IN 46202 or you may bring an unopened toy to the celebration of life service to be donated to Riley Hospital for Children.

Nathaniel is such a wonderful gift for us all to be able to share. God also truly loves the little guy to call him back with Him so soon. Thankful that Father chose you, Mitch & Amanda, to be his parents. Because of you, Nathaniel knows what it means to be loved! Through God’s Grace – He will always be in our hearts until we see him again in our perfect Lives above. Nothing can explain the mystery of why he was called back home so soon, nor account for the space left open in the hearts of everyone who loves him – a space that only he can fill. Yet in God’s love, we all will find peace & comfort in time. He promised us that His Grace is sufficient & He will never leave us. Praying for you both Mitch & Amanda, as well as your family. Thankful to know Nathaniel is no longer suffering & is home with our Father until we are united again. Love you both very much. In Him –

I took care of your sweet boy my last weekend as a nurse at Riley before I got married and moved to California. It was such a joy celebrating your daughter’s birthday with him and running my fingers through that beautiful little boy hair! Your family is incredible. The faith and love you so openly display and your love for sweet Nate have stayed in my heart from the day I met you. What a blessing it was to know him for that sweet short time. God certainly blessed him with the best family a little boy could hope to have. May He lovingly hold you in His arms as you mourn and always.
